Another bumper sticker

The other day i was driving and i saw this bumper sticker that said "I am a proud Atheist." I am not the most religious person because it was just never really apart of my life, however i do believe in God. I felt kind of sad when i read that. Then in class we have been talking alot about God and his existence. I wonder why there are atheist? I understand that we cannot point to God, we cannot say we have seen him or had a conversation with him, but how could you not believe in anything? I do not understand what they think our purpose on Earth is if they do not believe in a higher being.

I can definitely see your view about atheism and I think A LOT of people feel that way as well. From my own experiences and the people I know, however, I think atheism becomes more of the skeptical view and christian becomes a faith based view. Atheists do have a purpose: this is the only life we know we have; we need to make the most of it.
Even though I'm not atheist, I think people choose this because religion can contain so many conflicting views, misinterpretations, and judgments. For example, there are so many denominations of Christianity itself, including SDA. Even though they hold the same faith in God, each one of these views the other to be wrong because of different interpretations. We begin to judge each other and argue on these different perceptions we have.
We believe in a higher being because we want a purpose, but to atheists, the religions in which this belief was created are not perfect themselves, and, therefore, they decide to deviate from religion. Just because you don't believe in a God doesn't mean you feel you have no purpose.
SOrrrryy it was long haha, I hope that made sense
